Book a pickupHow I clean your seat
Graco, Britax, Chicco, Nuna and the rest all publish cleaning instructions, and some of them are pretty strict. Before I start, I look up the manual for your exact seat. If you know the brand and model, add it in the form, or text me a photo of the label.
- A Cover
- Taken off and washed following its care tag, then air-dried.
- B Harness straps
- Spot-cleaned on the seat with a damp cloth and mild soap.
- C Buckle and chest clip
- Rinsed with warm water only, no soap or lubricant. Then I test them to make sure they click.
- D Shell, foam and base
- Crumbs vacuumed out of every crevice and the belt path, the shell wiped down, and everything fully air-dried before the cover goes back on.
What I never do to your seat
- Soak or machine-wash the harness straps
- Use bleach, disinfectant sprays or household cleaners
- Use vinegar, steam or essential oils
- Put soap or lubricant in a buckle
- Dry anything with heat
- Take the harness off a seat whose manual says to leave it on
These rules come from car seat makers' own cleaning instructions. If your seat's manual says something different, I follow it.
I clean with [[PLACEHOLDER: cleaning products you use, e.g. fragrance-free castile soap]]. Your seat comes back with no added scent.
[[PLACEHOLDER: confirm the method and never list match how you clean, then delete this note]]
The harness is what holds your child in a crash. Soaking and harsh cleaners can weaken it, and you can't see that kind of damage.
When your seat comes back
- Harness re-routed through the same slots it came in
- Buckle and chest clip latched and released to check they click
- Cover back on every hook and snap
When to book a cleaning
A stomach bug or a diaper blowout in the car. It gets into the straps, the buckle and the foam under the cover, and none of that can go in the washing machine. That's what the sick-day clean is for.
Milk in a hot car. One sippy cup under the seat in July and the whole car knows. The smell ends up in the foam.
The infant seat is going to baby number two. I'll clean it and write down the manufacture and expiration dates from the label.
Moving with the military, or selling. Get the seats and stroller cleaned before they sit in a hot moving truck for weeks, or before they go up on Marketplace or out at the PCS yard sale.
Or it's just been a while. Crumbs, juice and sunscreen build up even without one big mess.

Questions you might have
How long will I be without my seat?
Same day when my schedule allows. Pickup is from your porch [[PLACEHOLDER: pickup window, e.g. after 7 pm]], so you don't need to be home. I'll confirm the pickup and drop-off times when we book.
Is it safe to clean harness straps?
Yes, if it's done right. Seat makers say straps shouldn't be soaked, machine-washed or cleaned with harsh products, because that can weaken the webbing. I spot-clean them by hand with mild soap and water.
Will it go back together right?
Yes. I put it back together by your seat's manual, with the harness in the same slots you had it in, and I check that the buckle and chest clip click. You'll reinstall it in your car. If you'd like someone to look over the install, Safe Kids Mid-Texas in Temple and Texas DSHS Safe Riders run free car seat checks.
Will every stain and smell come out?
Most do. Some old stains only fade, and if I think yours is one of them, I'll tell you up front.
What about a really bad mess, or mold?
Vomit and blowouts are fine. Please book within 12 hours of the accident, and the sick-day fee is up to $40. For safety reasons, I can't clean seats with mold or mildew. If you find mold, the seat maker can usually tell you about replacement parts.
What do you clean with? Is it scented?
I use [[PLACEHOLDER: cleaning products you use, e.g. fragrance-free castile soap]]. No bleach or disinfectant sprays, and nothing scented. If anyone in your house has allergies, put it in the notes.
What if my seat is a hand-me-down, expired, or has been in a crash?
Seats expire, usually 6 to 10 years after they're made. After a crash, many seat makers say to replace the seat even if the crash was minor, so check your manual. I'll check the label, look for cracks or frayed straps, and tell you what I find before I clean anything. You can look up recalls at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
How often should a seat be cleaned?
There's no official rule. Many families do it every few months, and right after any sickness or accident.
